A On Tuesday, Google honored the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 with a captivating doodle featuring animated birds engaged in a game of wheelchair tennis. The illustration shows the birds playing in the picturesque Parisian gardens of Jardin du Palais Royal or Jardin des Tuileries. Google’s official doodle page announced, “Ace attitudes and stellar serves. Wheelchair Tennis starts today at Stade Roland-Garros!”


A The wheelchair tennis events for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris began on August 30 and will run through September 7 at the renowned Roland Garros Stadium. The tournament will feature singles and doubles matches across the men’s, women’s, and quad categories. Recently, players Martin De La Puente (Spain), Alfie Hewett (Great Britain), Todiko Oda (Japan), and Gustavo Fernandez (Argentina) advanced to the last 16 in various matches.


A Wheelchair tennis, which began in 1976 thanks to Brad Parks, a freestyle skier from the U.S., has rapidly grown into one of the most popular wheelchair sports globally. The sport closely follows tennis rules with a few adaptations. It was first introduced at the Paralympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and is now featured in all four Grand Slam tournaments. The International Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis tour includes over 150 events.


Athletes are categorized into two groups:

- The open category, for those with permanent impairment of one or both legs but with normal arm functionality.

- The quad category, for those with additional limitations in their playing arm that affect their ability to handle the racquet and manage the wheelchair.
